Public works are the result of much debate, conversation, controversy, and effort before a single shovel of dirt is turned. Cincinnati Union Terminal was no exception. Thirty-five years of planning and almost four years of construction took place before the citizens of Cincinnati first beheld their Art Deco masterpiece.

The book tells of the rail transportation problem Cincinnati faced in the latter part of the 19th century and how it was ultimately addressed some 35 years later. Late enough that its construction helped offset the effects of the Great Depression for many local families. So late, in fact, that the terminal’s design was used as a basis for several modern airports.

Through more than 250 pictures, many of which have never before been published, the book gives you a sense of the size of this project.
