We at the Cincinnati Railroad Club would like to commemorate a special event here in the Greater Cincinnati area. This is Opening Day for our Cincinnati Reds. Hope springs eternal for a successful 2025 baseball season. The Reds have a new manager this year, Terry Francona, so expectations are high. Opening Day in Cincinnati is known as an unofficial holiday, with the Findlay Market Parade as a centerpiece. Findlay Market is Ohio’s oldest continuously operated public market and is the major sponsor of the parade. This year’s Grand Marshal for our hometown parade is Chris Sabo, a member of the Reds’ 1990 World Series team. We look back to a time in history when Major League Baseball teams and fans moved by rail. The Cincinnati Reds were based at Crosley Field, which had a convenient connection with its proximity to Cincinnati’s Union Terminal. We are kicking off Opening Day with the San Francisco Giants, who were originally the New York Giants until they relocated in 1958. Here we also see another rival: Chicago.
