Here are key things to know about the Cincinnati Dinner Train:
- Boarding Location & Parking: The train departs from the rear parking lot of the Green Sales Company, located at 2172 E. Seymour Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45237. Passengers should follow the directional signs on telephone poles and sandwich boards to find the area. Free guarded parking is provided in the open lot.
- Schedule & Route: Check-in begins approximately 60 minutes prior to departure. The train departs promptly at 6:00 PM and travels to the downtown Cincinnati riverfront, where the locomotive reverses direction to return to the boarding site. The total excursion lasts about 3.2 hours. Train routes are subject to adjustments if necessary.
- Inclusions: Ticket prices cover a four-course meal along with water, tea, and/or after-dinner coffee, in addition to the scenic ride.
- Seating Arrangement: Tables seat four people each, meaning passengers who purchase fewer than four tickets together will be seated with other guests.
- Dress Code: A business casual dress code is strictly enforced. Shorts, flip-flops or thong sandals, and sleeveless T-shirts are strictly prohibited, and blue jeans are discouraged. Passengers are encouraged (though not required) to wear 1940s vintage clothing to fit the theme of the experience.
The Cincinnati Dinner Train’s historic rail cars are not fully handicapped accessible. As antique passenger equipment built before modern accessibility laws were adopted, the train and its station facilities are legally exempt from ADA regulations under U.S. Code: Title 42: Section 12184. Consequently, platform areas, boarding stairways, step-boxes, seating, doorways, passageways, aisles, and onboard restrooms may not accommodate all guests.
While staff makes reasonable efforts to accommodate passengers with physical limitations, motorized wheelchairs and scooters are strictly prohibited on board at all times. Narrow manual wheelchairs and walkers can occasionally be accommodated, provided the guest is physically able to navigate the boarding steps.
Boarding Requirements and Expectations
-
Physical Requirements: Boarding requires stepping onto an 8–10 inch step box, stepping up 6–8 inches to the car’s first step, and navigating 4–5 additional steps that are each roughly 6 inches high.
-
Support Available: Handrails are located along the steps and entryways, and staff members are available to offer assistance.
-
Boarding Etiquette: Guests who require extra time or assistance embarking and disembarking are asked to wait until other passengers have cleared the platform. This allows those needing extra care to board and exit safely without feeling rushed.
