SUMMARY:Potluck Express: 10 Minute Member Presentations | November 2026
DESCRIPTION:Instead of a single feature presentation\, this special evening showcases dynamic\, short-form digital slideshows—roughly 10 minutes each—created and presented by our own members. It’s a fast-paced\, multi-perspective showcase that highlights the passion\, talent\, and diverse interests within our railfan community. \nFrom vivid trackside photography and favorite railfanning moments captured over the past year to deep dives into specific lines\, classic locomotives\, fallen flags\, and unforgettable travel adventures\, the Potluck Express brings a wide-ranging blend of railroad stories to the big screen. Each segment offers a unique lens on the high iron\, making for an engaging\, action-packed evening where no two presentations are alike. \nWhether you’re a lifelong railfan\, a seasoned photographer\, or simply curious about local and national railroad history\, everyone is welcome to join us. Come enjoy the show\, connect with fellow enthusiasts\, and celebrate the world of railroading together!\n \nProgram Speakers \nProgram: N&W – Cincinnati Belt Line: A Mountain Railroad in the Heart of Cincinnati\nPresenter: Roy Hord \nJoin Roy Hord for an engaging look into Norfolk & Western’s Cincinnati Belt Line\, often remembered as a true “mountain railroad” running right through the urban landscape of Cincinnati. \nRoy will detail the unique operational challenges\, severe grades\, and industrial switching that defined this steep\, winding corridor. Discover how N&W conquered the Queen City’s rugged terrain to keep freight moving in this fascinating chapter of local rail history. \n\nProgram: Hamilton’s Lost Union Station & Elevated Tracks\nPresenter: Jim Krause \nAnyone who has spent time in Hamilton\, Ohio knows how the railroad tracks divide the city. But few realize that nearly a decade before Cincinnati built Union Terminal\, Hamilton had its own bold plan to elevate its downtown tracks and build a central Union Station. \nIn this presentation\, historian Jim Krause shares the forgotten story of this ambitious project that almost completely reshaped Butler County’s rail landscape.\n \n\nProgram: Chasing the Circus Train\nPresenter: Laura Fathauer \nIn May 2017\, the iconic Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus trains made their final journeys\, closing a classic chapter in American railroading. The “Red” and “Blue” tour trains crisscrossed the country on two-year circuits\, bringing the show from town to town. \nRailfan Laura Fathauer shares her experiences tracking these legendary trains—from catching arrivals and departures for shows at The Ohio State University to chasing them across state lines\, including an unforgettable evening at Pennsylvania’s famous Horseshoe Curve. \n\nProgram: A Selection of Photos by E. Donald Smith\nPresenter: Chris Mayhew \nJoin us for a special Summerail-style 10-minute visual showcase celebrating the work of the late E. Donald Smith. Presented by Chris Mayhew\, this presentation highlights classic railroad photography captured across Cincinnati and Kentucky from the 1960s through the 1990s. \nAll photos in the program were personally digitized by Chris and are part of his private collection. Sit back\, relax\, and enjoy a nostalgic trip through local rail history set to music. \n\nProgram: Ten Of My Favorites: All Subjects from Soup to Nuts\nPresenter: Father Dale Peterka \nJoin us for “Ten Of My Favorites: All Subjects from Soup to Nuts\,” a dynamic presentation by author and railfan Father Dale Peterka. Moving beyond the traditional single-topic format\, Fr. Dale shares ten of his absolute favorite subjects\, pairing classic photography with stories that span railroad history\, regional lore\, and unexpected historical side trips. \nA retired priest\, teacher\, and hospital chaplain\, Fr. Dale brings decades of historical expertise and visual storytelling to the screen. He is a past president of the Cincinnati Railroad Club\, the Great Northern Railway Historical Society\, and the Cincinnati Color Slide Club\, as well as the author of The Great Northern Railway Through Time and Rails of the Northwest Through Time.\n \n\nAbout the meetings\nAll Cincinnati Railroad Club meetings are held in the Newsreel Theater at Union Terminal/Cincinnati Museum Center and are open to the public at no charge. We’ll begin the evening at 7:30 pm with brief club updates & announcements\, followed by our featured program presentation at 8:00 pm.
